Video: What Freshers advice would you give to incoming students?

If you could speak to your former self just before they headed off to university, what would you say? From financial advice to emotional support, here’s what the native team had to say to their past selves..

Andy McCreadie, Media Revenue Director, native: When you’re going [to university], remember that nobody there has experienced this before. So none of your peers, none of your friends – none of your newly-found social circle – have experienced [university] before. So everyone will be feeling the same as you. Everyone’s going to be just as nervous. But critically, everyone is up for trying something new!

Freshers encapsulates the entire start of a new journey in someone’s life. It is a time where there are people from all over the globe that come together. So if you want to try a new sport that you’ve never played before, try it. What have you got to lose? If you want to try new brands? Try them! What have you got to lose? You can completely reinvent yourself. And culturally, that’s really important.

Charlie Katirai, Senior Account Manager, native: I would say it’s one of the best times of your life to enjoy every day as it comes and keep on top of work. It’s easy to get swept up in all the fun and excitement.

Everything’s new and exciting – you form new connections, whether that be with brands or friendships. It’s really the key part of the academic diary, and moving out of home.

Priyanka Nagpal, Key Account Executive, native: Don’t spend your student loan within the first two weeks – and don’t necessarily agree to live with the first person you say hello to on your course.

I’d definitely say that Freshers is a big cultural moment. It really sets the tone for the rest of the year, especially if you end up joining any clubs and societies. They become such a big part of your university life, and you just meet so many people, even just through walking through the Freshers Fair. You meet people in different years, and it definitely paves the way for the rest of your time at university.

Lauren Brown, People and Culture Director, native: Have as much fun as you can. When you’re a student going away to uni, it’s your first step into being an adult. The guardrails are there, so just experience it. Have the best time. It’s your time to shine.

Students are gearing up for the most memorable time of their lives. Want to be remembered? Get in touch today to secure your spot on campus.
