What's new? Students' take on tech and utilities

There are 2.66 million students currently enrolled at UK universities. The majority are Gen Z – and on average, they’ll go on to earn £10,000 per year than their non-graduate peers. Having inherited spending power and shopping in new categories for the first time, 81% of students are open-minded to trying new brands and products.

When students first arrive at university, they start to make some high-value purchases for the first time – whether it’s their first laptop, phone contract or utility bill. With that in mind, get the lowdown on some key insights from the tech and utility sectors to help inform your student advertising strategy.

Some highlights:

  • Students phones record an average of 7.2 hours a day – 4.8 hours are spent on social media.
  • 66% of students are willing to spend more on products that are eco-friendly and sustainable.
  • 90% of students are gamers, with 69% preferring mobile games.
